Sherwood Forest Golf Club raise £5,000 for AMREF!
Money raised will support AMREF's life saving work in Africa
Dr Roy Harris, a member of Sherwood Forest Golf Club, has been a longstanding supporter of AMREF. When he was appointed Golf Club Captain, he picked AMREF to be the beneficiary charity of the Club's fundraising activities throughout the year.
The Club has participated in a range of activities all dedicated to raising money for AMREF, including Charity Challenge matches, tournaments, social events and even the odd raffle! Over the course of a year, they have raised an impressive £5,000 to support AMREF's life saving work in Africa.
Lucy Scanlon and Micah Matiang'i from AMREF visited the Club on 20th November to receive the cheque for £5,000, presented by Dr Harris and Vice Captain Mr Mike Taylor. Micah, who works on AMREF's innovative e-learning project in Nairobi, gave a brief presentation to the members about how their money would support AMREF's work in improving the health of the poorest and most vulnerable African communities.
£5,000 could train and equip 20 midwives in Southern Sudan.
Currently only 5% of births in the country are attended by skilled health workers, which has resulted in the highest rate of maternal mortality in the world. AMREF is the only organisation training midwives in Southern Sudan.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all members of the club for their fantastic fundraising efforts this year.
