Kenyans triumph at the London Marathon

Emmanuel Mutai and Mary Keitany of Kenya won the men's and women's races on a beautiful day in London.

Mutai (pictured left, in a green vest) beat the course record with a time of 2:04:40, which is the fifth quickest run ever. His teammates Martin Lel and Patrick Makau finished second and third, giving Kenya a 1-2-3 finish!

The AMREF team also ran very well; all 7 runners finished with good times, despite the heat. AMREF staff and volunteers set up a 'cheer zone' near the half-way point to give our runners a boost as they went past.

The AMREF runners are on track to raise an amazing £15,000 to support AMREF's work. Huge thanks to these fantastic fundraisers; your efforts will really make a difference to the health of communities in Africa.

It costs £250 to train a midwife, so £15,000 could train 60 midwives. An AMREF-trained midwife will save approximately 1,000 lives in the course of her career.
