Leading Fundraiser Alan Gosschalk to Join AMREF UK
The African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) UK is pleased to announce that Alan Gosschalk will be joining the organisation as Interim Director of Fundraising and Communications.
“I'm so excited about this opportunity,” Alan says. “As someone with African roots, I'm delighted to be able to help AMREF provide innovative, African solutions to Africa's health problems by growing the organisation’s profile and income.”
Voted one of the top three most influential people in fundraising by the readers of Professional Fundraising magazine four years running, Alan joins AMREF from Shelter, where as director of its fundraising division, he more than doubled the charity’s voluntary income, growing it by over £13m. He also led a private big gift appeal that raised over £5.6 million for a new homeless children’s service.
“AMREF has fantastic supporters and is doing groundbreaking work across Africa — including in the village of Katine, Uganda, with the support of the Guardian and Barclays. I look forward to building on the organisation’s recent string of successes,” Alan says.
AMREF UK has grown significantly over the past five years, increasing its annual income by over 58% between 2007 and 2008 while continuing to bring good quality and affordable health care to those who need it most in sub-Saharan Africa.
“Despite the challenging economic climate, I believe that AMREF is well-positioned to continue to make a difference in the lives of Africa’s most vulnerable people,” he says.
