AMREF position statements
At AMREF, we believe health is a human right. That all people, no matter how poor or isolated, are entitled to good health.
In order to have good health, this means investment in systems that improve access to services for even the most marginalised.
We believe utmost in supporting people to improve their health.
Some cultural practices which communities still adhere to can reflect deep-rooted inequality. AMREF always ensures health programmes are developed with cultural understanding and community involvement.
AMREF's key area of focus
- Making pregnancy safe and expanding reproductive health
- Preventative, community-based health care
- Reducing morbidity and mortality among children
- Scaling up HIV, TB and malaria programmes
- Prevention and control of diseases related to water, sanitation and hygiene
- Increasing access by disadvantaged communities to quality medical, surgical and clinical services
- Training health workers with particular emphasis on up-skilling community-based health workers
