Volunteer with AMREF

Volunteers are so important to AMREF’s work; it’s a great way to gain some valuable experience and help AMREF improve millions of lives.

AMREF UK is a fairly small office, so if you are looking to get stuck in with a variety of tasks, and gain important skills for working in the development field, this could be the opportunity for you!

How long have you been volunteering at AMREF?

I volunteered at AMREF for two months this summer.

Why did you decide to volunteer at AMREF?

I was looking for work experience with an international NGO to get a better idea of what I wanted to do after I finished my degree and I was told about AMREF by my Aunt who has worked with AMREF.

What does it involve?

The work can involve anything, from inputting data into the online database, to transforming a meeting room into an African paradise! It involves supporting all the different teams with whatever they need help with.

What have you found particularly interesting?

Before I came to AMREF I really didn't know much about them as an organisation, but what I found was a very friendly, passionate and dedicated team of people. The work AMREF does is so vital and I learnt so much about the development of healthcare in Africa. It was a greatly enjoyable experience and I am hoping to go back to AMREF next summer!

If you have an interest in international development and some free time, then this would be the perfect volunteering opportunity for you!
